What’s Not Covered by Gardening Insurance?
Gardening insurance ineligible/excluded operations include:
- Tree removal: If it’s lumberjack work, it’s out of our league.
- Tree trimming conducted other than from the ground up (without using walls, ladders, roofs, scaffolding, hoisting equipment, etc.): Keep your feet on the ground, and we’re all good.
- Designing operations or playing landscape architect: We’re all for creativity, just not on this policy!
- Irrigation or sprinkler installation (only incidental damage repair allowed): We love a good sprinkle, but no full-blown waterworks here!
- Hardscaping: Paving the way? Not on our policy.
I’m Sold! But What Policy Do I Choose?
Unsure which gardening insurance policy best fits you? Consider the scope of your operations (aka, what a day on the job looks like) and daily risk factors (aka, what could land you in hot water). Find what best describes your business:
New & Growing Businesses
We describe new gardening businesses as those with minimal client interactions and low-risk environments. If you offer a singular service—such as planting, seeding, fertilizing, etc.—and interact with only a handful of customers per season, you may fall into this category.
Growing businesses have more frequent client interactions and moderate risk exposure. You could be juggling additional services such as landscaping designs, pest control, or tree care, but not necessarily need a large safety net quite yet.
Start strong with a General Liability Insurance Policy. At this level, we recommend our package with a coverage rate of $500,000 per incident / $1,000,000 per year — ideal for covering basic risks.
Established Business
Established gardening businesses have significant client interactions and higher risk exposure. If you have a backlog of flowers to plant and are a well-known biz in your neighborhood, the likelihood of running into trouble at some point is likely. As you expand your clientele or services, this risk also increases—so you’ll want to know what your policy can deliver.
Insurance Canopy’s elevated General Liability Insurance package offers coverage of $1,000,000 per incident / $2,000,000 so you can keep growing in confidence. And don’t forget to add Workers’ Compensation insurance to the mix to protect your employees in case of work-related injuries. Please note: we’re in the business of small businesses, so our coverage is only available for businesses with payroll under $200K and annual revenue under $1.5M.
Tools and Equipment Insurance
This one’s a must-have for gardening businesses. Your tools and equipment are what keep those gardens and your business booming. Without proper coverage, unexpected damages or theft could leave you scrambling and disrupt your service commitments, potentially costing you clients and revenue. Our packages include:

- $2,000 per incident / $6,000 per policy year (+$4.58/month): Suitable for growing businesses with a moderate amount of equipment.

You’ll receive instant coverage confirmation and your Certificate of Insurance (COI) as soon as you complete the online application and payment—allowing you to get back to work without skipping a beat. Just make sure to review your policy documents for any specific conditions or exclusions!
Can I cancel my gardening policy at any time?
You can cancel your gardening policy with Insurance Canopy at any time.
